FAA Order 8000.95C allows an FAA designee (non-FAA employee or contractor) to charge a 'reasonable fee' for his/her time to conduct a practical test under 14 CFR Part 183, as long as these fees are explained in advance and prior to starting the practical test. Keep in mind that a private, instrument and commercial practical test is roughly a 5 hour process 'end-to-end'. This does not include travel to/from the airport (with South Florida rush-hour traffic) in the SO19 FSDO area, and pre/post test paperwork & reports.
Additionally, more advanced and comprehensive tests - such as Initial CFI, CFII, ATP and Rotorcraft Helicopter tests require additional time, paperwork and specialized annual proficiency requirements. These tests can be up to be a 6-9 hour process, essentially blocking out the entire day for one practical test. In fact, the FAA 8000.95C order only allows a designee to conduct a single CFI Initial practical test for the entire day and no other testing events can be conducted that day.
Please also keep in mind that you are paying for an examiner's time to conduct the practical test, process paperwork, etc., and you are NOT paying for any sought of testing outcome.
Please email, call or text me if you want to discuss your testing needs and associated fees for respective tets.
While you can schedule your test directly with me, it's not recommended. Schools and CFIs do this everyday and they know when an applicant is ready for a practical test. So once your Recommending CFI or school admin has scheduled your test, please click the respective link below to confirm the appointment with a non-refundable deposit, that will be applied to the final testing fee.
A reasonable deposit is unfortunately now required, due to many applicants booking tests prior to being eligible, some booking multiple DPEs, examiner shopping, and an enormous amount of last minute cancellations due to applicants not be ready or eligible. Therefore, please only book and confirm your practical test when you are signed off, eligible and fully ready.
Cancellations and deposit refunds with reasonable notice and reasonable circumstances will certainly be considered. Refunds will not be given simply because you are not prepared or eligible for the test. Again, please don't book the test if you are not signed off, eligible, proficient and ready to go...
Acceptable payments are: 141 Approved School - Check, Cashiers Check, Money Order, Cash, Zelle, CashApp and all major credit cards with a 3% fee added.
And receipts are no problem - please just ask...
Also, I do not charge for a test discontinuance/continuation (that I conducted) due to reasonable circumstances - such as unforecasted weather, unavoidable maintenance issues, major illness, etc. Essentially, things out of your control and that are reasonable, life events happen and it's understandable.
The FAA requires the DPE and Applicant to have the intention of completing the entire practical test within one appointment/event and must not knowingly divide the test into multi-day events - for the exception of the ATP or lighter-than-air practical tests.
Retests (for tests that I conducted) are half price.
If the re-test is a test originally conducted from another DPE, and the Notice of Disapproval (NOD) is well written - with the exact items that need remediation, what was completed satisfactory and what items are still remaining, then I will honor the half price of the full testing fee.
Various FAA Orders and the respective PTS/ACS documents state that an applicant shall be given credit for the areas completed satisfactory (within 60 days). But if the Notice of Disapproval is not clearly written, then there is no choice but to conduct a full and complete practical test - with a full fee due to the time associated with the full retest.
Please also keep in mind that the 60 days start from the first attempt, regardless if there was multiple failures and continuations along the way. If your endorsements, 141 graduation certificate or written tests have expired between the 60 days, then you will not be eligible for the retest.
